Kafeneion Cafe Vafe - The place to be!

 

We are happy to introduce you the new owners of Cafe Vafe – a lovely family from New Zealand who will arrive here in couple of weeks. We’re sure that they will be so warmly welcome as we were two years ago.

 

Cam, Tracie, Victoria and Conor Mitchell, are looking forward to arriving in Chania on Sunday 27 April and can’t wait to meet Gosia and Bartek, and all of Café Vafe’s customers. We fell in love with Cafe Vafe the very first time we saw the photos. It has been a pleasure doing business with Gosia and Bartek and we look forward to a long association with them. We especially can’t wait to meet the new addition to the family, but we are sure that we are not alone in this.

  Located in the heart of Chania, ‘Cafe Vafe’ is a place where international society gathers each day. It's a perfect place for tired travellers who want to rest in its cool interior or enjoy watching the everyday life of Chania inhabitants from its cosy garden.  Gourmets of Mediterranean cuisine will find here delicious ‘mezedes’ as the appetizers are called in this region. Among them are: keftedes (small meatballs with the flavour of parsley and cumin), moussaka (the number one dish in Greece – a casserole with mince meat and grilled aubergines) and pastitsio (pasta and meat casserole with bechamel sauce) as well as tasty vegetarian dishes : dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) served mainly with tzatziki (garlic, cucumber and yoghurt dip), fried zucchini, different kinds of local cheese (e.g. graviera, kefalotiri, feta) served as ‘saganaki’ (fried) or just as a table cheese, baked pepper with balsamic vinaigrette, a variety of salads and snacks prepared with local ingredients.
