KALAMAKI - villas
On
a hill between Kalamaki and Kamilari, with a beautiful
view down to the bay of Kalamaki (which is just 1.5
kilometres away), to the rich Messara plain and the Ida
massive, situated amidst an olive grove – that’s where you
find our holiday villas. They are surrounded by 400 m2 of
gardens with green and a large number of flowers.
When you are watching the indescribable spectacle of the
sun setting in the Lybian see while sitting on the large
terrace, you will wish you could stay at this place
forever! Built in traditional Cretan style, with a
combination of stone and wood, the villas not only offer
an incomparably atmosphere, but they are also furnished
very comfortably to make the holiday a wonderful
experience. Particularly in the spring the surroundings
are spangled with wild flowers and fragrant herbs. A
holiday at this place means an exquisite experience at the
island of Crete, far away from mass tourism – a quiet
location in a lovely environment, which is the starting
point for many tours and short
trips to the numerous
fascinating places on the island. These houses are
appropriate for families who are looking for a quiet place
in a natural environment. Those who have enjoyed an
individual holiday in one of the houses will be inspired
by the ambience, the location and the equipment and will
definitely come back!
The
villas with their special character have been built and
furnished with greatest attention to the traditional
details in architecture. They are sufficient for 2-8
persons. All villas are neighbouring houses, but yet
unattached. Twice a week, the houses are cleaned and
towels as well as bed linens are changed.
The 3 larger houses “ISMINI”, “ANTHIPPI” and “ANTIGHONI”:
On opening the main door you find yourself in a spacious
fully equipped kitchen and
living room featuring a
beautiful stone made fireplace. A stone arch leads you to
the bedrooms – the main bedroom has a double bed and the
second bedroom has 2 bunk beds. The spacious bathroom has
bathtub/Jacuzzi, shower and WC.
They
are equipped with washing machine, dishwasher,
air-conditioning/heating, satellite TV, hair dryer and
ironing board.
Every house has its own swimming pool and separate
children pool.
The smaller house “ORESTIS” is similar but does not have a
fireplace, washing machine, dishwasher, bathtub/Jacuzzi or
swimming pool. The studio architecturally belongs to Villa
“ANTIGHONI” but has a separate entrance and terrace.
To
have space for 8 or 9 persons, it is possible to get the
studio “ORESTIS” and “ANTIGHONI” in combination.
The villages of Kalamaki and Kamilari represent Crete as
its finest. The small, typically Cretan village Kamilari
with its 400 inhabitants is situated west of the link road
between Phaistos and Matala. Four kilometres further down
the road to the seaside, one arrives in the village of
Kalamaki with its beautiful beach. Here the Cretan
originality has been preserved, but yet the village offers
tourist life.
In
this area, the sea, the beach, and the picturesque
landscape are unified to create a holiday experience of an
extraordinary quality. Sunny days, beaches stretching over
miles, turbulent Greek market scenes, endless, desolate
mountain ranges, and not least the almost incredible
openness and hospitality of people are waiting for
holidaymakers to come here.
The nature of this region is particularly attractive in
the months of Winter and Spring. Even on short trips and
walking tours you will find a magic vegetation with unique
flowers and officinal plants which only grow at that time
of the year and which give the hills their beautiful silky
green colour.
In contrast to the more tourist-like, active North, the
Southern part of the island is largely untouched. Here,
the Greek life
is much more natural and the climate more Mediterranean.
Former, but also still existing monasteries as well as
ancient ruins, caves and old villages which can be found
all over the country, offer the traveller new
opportunities for interesting excursions over and over.
Visits to old places of cultural interests, such as the
palaces of Knossos and Phaistos with their history that is
more than 5000 years old, will remain unforgettable. Among
the outstanding regional specialities is the Samaria
gorge, the Lassithi plateau and not least the mighty
missives, which rise from the sea up to levels of 2,500
metres and which are partly accessible only by narrow
ballast paths. The landscape shaped by the Mediterranean
climate offers a variegated vegetation, where fresh water
springs bring up oases of fertile flora in the dry Summer
months.
